It's said in Country music, especially, that all you need is 4 chords and the truth, you'll be surprised how many songs are made up of these! So get practising!

When it comes to strumming patterns, an easy way to get to grips is to listen to the song you're trying to master and do your best to block out all vocals. Count out loud the patterns you hear, then re-create these with your strumming, start slow and build up until you feel comfortable to add some words! Another little tip is don't stop strumming! Even if your fingers haven't quite reached the chord, it will even out much quicker than stopping completely until you're ready (maybe sing a little louder on these bits if you're struggling!)
